About Detroit Yoga Lab

We’ve been told in many different ways that Detroit Yoga Lab is the most welcoming, best designed and supercharged yoga studio in Detroit, and that there’s just no other place like it. Our students also share that their experiences in being part of this amazing community have changed their lives, bodies and hearts for the better. We hope you’ll come see for yourself. We are so humbled by the inclusiveness, connectivity and determination that has sprouted in this space over the past 5 years and hope you will come join us.

We offer more than 30 classes a week, from heated vinyasa to candle light yin, and everything in between. The room pulses and breathes. The air is sort of electric. And most importantly, there is a real feeling of community that pervades this studio and makes students want to return, because we see the beauty in everyone! Our teachers are friendly, accessible for questions and are consistently participating in ongoing education and training so they can in turn provide the most knowledgeable classes about how to move safe, build strength, increase flexibility and release stress through yoga. To us, yoga is a practice that helps us all be our best, not a practice to make us all look the same, and we’re here to help everyone regardless of if this is their first class or 1000th time on the mat.

We ❤︎ new yogis

Not trying yoga because you’re too inflexible is as silly as not taking a bath because you’re too dirty.  If you’re new to yoga, start with a slow flow or yin class (our schedule is here), and bring these four things: comfy clothes, a yoga mat, a water bottle, and yourself. If you don’t bring it, we have all of these items in our retail boutique!  Sign up for your first class online and you can pre-register for all your classes through our Detroit Yoga Lab APP, or just come in and we’ll take care of everything for you!

Our Story

Detroit Yoga Lab was born out of Naomi Gold’s passion and love for Detroit, Yoga, Community and Small Business. Having lived in Detroit for more than 12 years, and working up to 70 hours per week as a community organizer in the City, Naomi was struggling to find a balance between taking care of herself and others. Yoga was the only consistent thing she found that helped her nurture her body mind and spirit, while giving her the strength and energy she needed to support and give back to the community. The only problem was, at that time there were no yoga studios in the City.

It took almost 2 years of planning and construction, and in 2012, Naomi opened Detroit Yoga Lab, a place where she brings all of her passions together.  This studio is is like a second home, to our staff, customers and anyone looking to take care of themselves and the community around them.  We are thrilled with the positive feedback we get from seasoned practitioners and  new yogis alike, and are excited to keep growing. Our yoga is sweaty, accessible and ridiculously fun, and our community welcomes everyone with open arms. See you on the mat!

Parking

If you can arrive a little early, there is a lot of free parking on the streets, especially in the evenings and on weekends. There are free spaces along Cass, Forest, and Prentis all within a few of blocks from studio.  Otherwise the surface lot across the street charges $3 if you let them know you’re coming to yoga. We’re trying to be patient with all the street construction in the neighborhood and hope it will help us all get to classes easier in the future.
