Return to Detroit Yogi Stories
It has been five years since I achieved and maintained a weight loss of over 70 pounds, and yoga has been with me every step of the way. When I first began practicing in 2007, I felt nauseous, unbalanced, and weak, but with each class I noticed my body and mind changing, growing stronger and inviting the challenges that each pose presented. I started taking classes at Detroit Yoga Lab in October 2012 with a Groupon, and immediately felt welcomed by the energy of the space and the community. As a social worker and community organizer in Detroit, yoga has reinforced the daily need for connectedness, intentionality, self-care, mindfulness, and the use of breath to quiet my mind and reduce stress. Yoga has been, and will continue to be, at the core of my fitness and life journey. I am Lacea and I am a Detroit Yogi.
