FAQ

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT TO BEING A MEMBER?

Unlimited Members get 15% off workshops and retail, 2 buddy passes a month to bring your people, and early access to challenges and events. More practice, more perks, more community.

I AM NEW TO DETROIT YOGA LAB — WHERE DO I BEGIN?

Anywhere. Every class is fully guided and beginner-friendly, built to meet you where you are. Whether you want nervous-system-friendly yoga, the warmth of Infrared HOT Yoga, or the energy of Hot Pilates Flow, our teachers will help you find your footing from day one. No experience required — just come as you are.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CLASS?

A mat, a water bottle, and anything that helps you feel comfortable — a towel, a layer. We rent mats ($3) and keep props in the studio, so really, all you need is yourself.

WHERE DO I PARK?

Midtown has plenty of street parking, plus a $3 private lot right across from us, and bike racks if you’re rolling in on two wheels. Heads up: we can’t validate WSU parking in Structure 8.

HOW EARLY SHOULD I ARRIVE?

Give yourself 10–15 minutes before class, especially your first time — enough to check in, get settled, and ease in. Our front doors lock 5 minutes after start time, so plan a little cushion.

DO YOU HAVE A FIRST-VISIT SPECIAL?

Yes — Weekly Unlimited. It auto-renews every 7 days for $33, comes with all the same perks as a monthly membership, and you can cancel anytime. The easiest way to find out if we’re your people.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CLASS?

Wear what makes you feel your best and lets you move freely. For everyone’s comfort, choose athletic wear with enough coverage and support to stay put when you flip, fold, and flow — full coverage through the chest and hips, and a longer inseam on shorts (around 5 inches or more) works great.

WHAT IS INFRARED HEAT?

Infrared warms your body directly — like sunshine on your skin — instead of just heating the air. Most students find it eases muscle tension, supports circulation, and makes for a deeper, more comfortable practice. It’s also gentler on your nervous system than traditional forced-air heat.

HOW HOT ARE THE CLASSES?

Depends on the class. Our gently heated classes run around 84°, our Infrared HOT Yoga and Hot Pilates Flow run 85–90°, and we offer unheated options too. Every class lists its temperature so you always know what you’re walking into.

IS HOT YOGA SAFE FOR BEGINNERS?

Yes — with a little awareness. Come hydrated, take it at your own pace, and rest whenever you need to. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, that’s normal in the heat: sit down, grab water, or step out anytime, no explanation needed. Not sure about the heat? Start with a gently heated or unheated class and work up.

DO I NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE?

We recommend it — classes can fill, and booking ahead guarantees your spot. You can reserve through our schedule online or in the app.

HOW CAN I CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP?

Anytime — on your own through your account, or just email us at practice@detroityogalab.com. No hoops, no guilt.

DO YOU HAVE SHOWERS AND CHANGING ROOMS?

Changing rooms and restrooms with toiletries, yes. Showers, no — so plan accordingly if you’re heading somewhere after.

CAN I BORROW A MAT OR TOWEL?

We rent mats for $3 a use. Towels, bring your own.

DO YOU OFFER REFUNDS?

All class, workshop, and event packages are non-refundable and non-transferable.

WHAT’S YOUR LATE ARRIVAL / NO-SHOW POLICY?

Our doors close 5 minutes after class starts — it keeps the room calm and undisturbed for everyone. If you can’t make an in-studio class on time, you forfeit your spot, and it’s non-refundable. For in-person classes, cancel at least 1 hour ahead, or you’ll be charged a $10 late-cancel fee.

CAN I PAUSE (FREEZE) MY MEMBERSHIP?

Yes — up to 3 months, no questions asked. Just email practice@detroityogalab.com or catch us at the front desk.

ARE DETROIT YOGA LAB’S CLASSES BEGINNER-FRIENDLY?

Very. Every class has clear structure and accessible progressions, with cues for alignment, breath, and a few ways to approach each shape — so first-timers and seasoned practitioners practice side by side, everyone at their own level.
