I am so grateful for my experience as a student in Naomi’s Yoga Teacher Training at Detroit Yoga Lab. What initially began as “just a personal journey” to deepen my understanding of this practice and my relationship to myself (aka I couldn’t actually imagine myself teaching yoga)… I have now gained the education, practice, language, skills and confidence to bravely step into a new role. Thanks to this training, the DYL community, and Naomi’s steady encouragement, I feel prepared to call myself a yoga teacher and share this practice with my friends, family and all of the new and seasoned students I will have the honor of guiding. Yoga Teacher Training is more than just learning about yoga. The experience, much like yoga itself, serves many purposes depending on the person that is approaching it. My intention was to be open, curious and trust during a transition period in my life, and the gifts I receive from this experience continue to unfold. I highly recommend trusting your own curiosity about this training if it calls to you.
This training really opened my eyes to what Yoga teaching is truly about. I thought that teaching yoga was just calling out various postures and poses with breath. I had no idea the amount of time and preparation it takes to build a class. It was such an awesome and informative training it's hard for me to just name a couple of things that helped prepare me to teach. If I could sum it up: the teachers always were reassuring each of us as we taught, not one time did I feel discouraged or talked down to. The approach to understanding anatomy was very practical and easy to understand, especially in direct relation to the asana techniques. The knowledge I obtained about the physical and mental practice of yoga increased my love for yoga and life! If you want to understand more about your mind and body it’s time to take a leap and dive into this training.
I started yoga teacher training with Naomi Gold in winter of ‘22. The experience surpassed my expectations. Naomi is deeply knowledgeable with anatomy and alignment. She really helped me understand the tiny details that make a huge difference in alignment. Naomi is also focused on the philosophy of yoga. She teaches with exquisite humbleness and also actively listens and offers wisdom and compassion. I loved circle time when we had a chance to share personal thoughts, struggles, fears, as well as champion each others progress. Prior to yoga teacher training I had struggled profoundly with anxiety and agoraphobia. Naomi created a very safe and intimate environment that always made me feel very comfortable-even when I had to stretch out of my comfort zone. For those on the fence about taking Naomi’s yoga teacher training, I would strongly encourage you just to do it! There is nothing to lose and an abundance of goodness, friendships, wisdom, and strength to gain.
